A motor vehicle accident in Ste. Genevieve County early Thursday afternoon proved fatal for three siblings, and yielded serious injuries for one other victim.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Highway 61 North and Buehler Road at roughly 12 p.m. Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Paige Johnson, of Ste. Genevieve, attempted to overtake another vehicle and lost control. She overcorrected into the southbound lane and was struck by Dennis Klump, 52, of Ste. Genevieve.
Johnson's vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, was carrying her brothers, Lucas Welton, 12, and Clayton Grass, 10. Kim Grass, a Perry County Health Department employee, was the mother of Paige and Lucas. Clayton was husband David's son from a previous marriage. Clayton's mother is Shelly Boyer of Bonne Terre, Mo.
Welton and Grass were pronounced dead on-scene, and Johnson was pronounced dead at Barnes Jewish Hospital roughly four hours after the accident.
Klump, who was driving a 2003 GMC Sonoma, sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital Jefferson. His car was a total loss.
Those who died in the accident were wearing seat belts. Klump was not, according to the highway patrol report.
