Gene and Rita Esselman of Quincy, Ill., celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 5 with Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Quincy followed by a family dinner.

Gene Esselman and Rita Moranville were married November 3, 1951 at the Assumption Catholic Church (Shrine of the Miraculous Medal) in Perryville.

Rita is the daughter of the late Leo and Gertrude Moranville and Gene is the son of the late Ed and Stella Esselman, both of Perryville.

Gene and Rita are formerly from Perryville. Gene was employed at the Perry County Republican during high school (1945-1949). Following a period in the service (1950-1953) he went back to work at the paper until 1970. At that time the family moved to Quincy, Ill., and Gene was employed by the Western Catholic Union.

The are the parents Rev. Tom Esselman, CM of Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, Deborah (Bob) Harvey of Ottumwa, Iowa, Janice (David) Kroeger of Palmyra, Mo., Ed Esselman and July (Jerry) Smith of Quincy, Ill., and the late Dennis (Becki) Esselman of Springfield, Ill.

They have 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Gene is retired from the Western Catholic Union. They are members of Blessed Sacrament Church. They enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and volunteering.
