Perryville

Harold J. Streiler of Perryville lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011. He was 76. His wife and children were by his side at his home.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1935 in Perry County, the son of Wallace and Esther (Sutterer) Streiler. He and Matilda Hennemann were married on June 9, 1956 and she preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 1990. He then married Joanne (Cissell) Rollet on Sept. 27, 1997 and she survives in Perryville.

He was the loving father of Kenny (Jan) Streiler and David (Jennifer) Streiler of Perryville and Connie (Skip) Schmitt of Kimmswick. The loving grandfather of six grandchildren, Matt (Amanda) Schmitt of Herculaneum; Megan (Jason) Butler of Cape Girardeau; Christopher, Cory and Caleb Streiler of Perryville; and Ben Schmitt of Kimmswick. Beloved PawPaw Harry to two great-grandchildren, Makenna and Darrin Schmitt of Herculaneum. He was the loving step-father of Kim Kapp of Jackson; Paul Rollet and Mark (Cindy) Rollet of Perryville; Melody Rhodes of Millersville and Mary Jo (Ken) Place of Montgomery, Ill. Beloved step-grandfather of Jason (Staci) Tucker of Arnold; Samantha and Josh Rollet of Perryville; Kacie and Caleb Kapp of Jackson; Donovan and Allie Place of Montgomery, Ill. Alex and Colton Rhodes of Millersville. Beloved step-great-grandfather to Charley and Kaleigh Tucker of Arnold.

Mr. Streiler was a long time truck driver, retiring in 1992 from Valley Steel Products in Centralia, Ill. He then continued his passion of trucking at Rollet Brothers in Perryville continuing on at M.B.C. in McBride. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno, the Sportsman Club, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and one sister, Ruth Schremp.

Memorials are preferred to AmHeart Hospice or Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

The funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Bill Rhinehart officiating. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Kelly G. Roberts of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was 58.

Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Perryville

Leslie H. Johnson of Perryville died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at his residence. He was 84.

He was born on July 14, 1927 in Alliance, the son of James D. and Ethel (Doggett) Johnson. He was married on Dec. 6, 1947 to Dorothy Conrad of Perryville, who survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sherry (Bill) Cottner and Nancy Cottner, both of Perryville; two brothers, Lancy Johnson of Bonne Terre and Lawrence Johnson of Sedgewickville; three grandchildren, Justin Cottner of Cape Girardeau; Kyle Cottner of St. Louis and Kristopher Cottner of Cape Girardeau; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Desirae Cottner, both of Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Johnson was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was the bulk plant manager for MFA Oil. He was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church; American Legion Post 133; Masonic Lodge 670 and Eastern Star Chapter 46.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester; two sisters, Gladys Smith and Hazel Johnson.

Memorials are preferred to American Lung Association.

The funeral service was held at Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Greg Dowler officiating. Burial was at the Home Cemetery with military graveside service provided by the American Legion Post 133 and MO Delta Team.

Lutrudis C. Schemel of Biehle died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau. She was 92.

She was born Jan. 17, 1919 at Apple Creek, the daughter of August and Cordula (Welker) Wibbenmeyer. She was married on June 28, 1952 to John S. Schemel, who preceded her in death on July 16, 1991.

Survivors include three sons and three daughters, Michael (Cathy) Schemel of Jackson; Carl (Janet) Schemel and Dale (Debbie) Schemel, both of Perryville; Kathy Cowan of Biehle; Gera (Donnie) LeGrand of Benton; and Denise (Richard) Pudlo of Fenton; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Schemel was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Maurus Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Sodality in Biehle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two granddaughters, Stacey Schemel and Jenna Pudlo; three sisters, five brothers and one son-in-law, Kevin Cowan.

Memorials are preferred to St. Maurus Catholic Church.

Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Young & Sons Funeral Home from 6:30-9:20 a.m. with a rosary at 8:15 a.m.

The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20 at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle at 10 a.m. with Rev. Tony Dattilo officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Young and Sons Funeral Home, Inc., provided the arrangements.

Valley M. Collins of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at her residence. She was 49.

A private graveside service for the family was held.

Barnhart

Roy Lee Boxdorfer of Barnhart died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011. He was 81.

He was born Oct. 10, 1930 in Perryville, the son of Fred and Edna (Klobe) Boxdorfer. Roy married the former Virginia Buchheit.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia (Buchheit) Boxdorfer of Barnhart; four daughters, June Kriese, Joan (Keith) Oestricker, Patty (Mike Barbagallo) Boxdorfer and Roi-Ann (Daryl) Black; one son, Frank (Debi Davis) Boxdorfer; two sisters, Hallie Pourney and Margie Hudson;16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

For those who prefer, memorial masses in Mr. Boxdorfer’s name, may be left to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Penny Ann (Berkbuegler) Hlavaty of O’Fallon died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 after a 10-year battle with cancer. She was 40.

She was born Oct. 31, 1971, the daughter of Othmar and Nancy (Bohnert) Berkbuegler of Perryville, who survive. She was married on Oct. 2, 1993 to Rudolph Hlavaty of O’Fallon, who survives.

Other survivors include three children, Abigail, Madeline and Rudolph II; two brothers, Randy (Lavonna) Berkbuegler and Roger (Alice) Berkbuegler; nieces, Amber, Lauren and Ashley Berkbuegler; nephew, Roger Berkbuegler II; and best friend, Elizabeth Hoehn of Perryville.

Penny graduated from Perryville High School in 1990. She was involved with girl’s softball where both her daughters were pitchers. Penny was a fighter letting nothing keep her down.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wilpert and Wilma (Puntmann) Bohnert and Frank and Cordula (Baer) Berkbuegler.

Memorials are preferred to the family.

The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 19 at St. Charles River Church in St. Charles at 10 a.m. with Rev. Barry Ivie officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Memorial Gardens.

Perryville

Leona K. French of Perryville died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was 82.

She was born on March 19, 1929 in Yount, the daughter of Everett W. and Sina K. (Hendrix) Rutherford. She was married on Aug. 10, 1946 to Clovis M. French of Perryville, who survives.

Other survivors include two sons and two daughters, Patricia Cissell, Roger C. and Brenda French, Sheila K. and Gerry Duvall, all of Perryville; Ron C. and Mimi French of Wichita, Kan.; one sister, Carol Welland of Elk Hart, Ind.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. French was a homemaker. She was a member of Whitewater Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Edgar and Elvie Rutherford.

Memorials are preferred to Whitewater Christian Church or National Kidney Foundation.

The funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 17 at Whitewater Christian Church near Yount at 11 a.m. with Ray White officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Wilda E. Favier of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was 86.

She was born April 12, 1925 in Perryville, the daughter of Fred W. and Edna (Klobe) Boxdorfer. She was married on Nov. 29, 1941 to Ralph B. Favier, who preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1979.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Bob) Eggemeyer of Murphysboro Ill. and Jean (James) Robison of Sparta Ill.; one son, Gary (Nancee) Favier of Perryville; one adopted daughter, Emily Favier of Perryville; a granddaughter, Stacey Roman of Farmington; two sisters, Hallie Pourney and Margie Hudson, both of Perryville; one brother, Roy Lee Boxdorfer of Arnold; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Favier had been a seamstress at Ollie Moore’s Dress Factory. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 4282 .

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Tim Favier; daughter, Tina Favier; and two brothers, Floyd and Robert Boxdorfer.

Memorials are preferred for family use.

Perryville

Lorine L. (Rauss) Schuessler of Perryville died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at her residence. She was 89.

She was born on March 11, 1922 in Farrar, the daughter of the late Adolph and Emelie (Petzoldt) Rauss. She was married on May 5, 1951 to Elmer M. Schuessler, who preceded her in death on July 19, 1977.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd and Ronald Schuessler and one sister-in-law, Melva Rauss, all of Perryville and a special cousin, Arlene James of Jackson.

Mrs. Schuessler had worked at Perry County Nursing Home for many years as an aide. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Berean Bible Class in Perryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Norman Rauss; two half-brothers, Melvin and Willard Rauss and one half-sister, Felma Detjen.

The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 12 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Marks officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
