Although St Vincent is known for its offensive prowess, it was the defense that showed up Friday night as the Indians shut out Jefferson R-7 in the second half to beat the Bluejays 41-28. St Vincent overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to secure the win, outscoring Jefferson 21-0 in the second half. The turning point for the Indians was a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Jesse Robinson. Both teams scored at will in the second quarter as the teams combined for five TDs in the first six minutes, including three touchdowns in four plays. The scoring spree included an 80-yard catch and run by Sean Harold on a screen pass. St Vincent wrapped up the third seed in next week’s first round of the Class 1, District 1 tournament and will play Portageville.
