Citizens Electric asks customers to limit use today and tonight

Midwest Power Supply Warning Underway

 

Citizens Electric has been notified that the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) has issued a warning to all utilities in the Midwest that there could be an unexpected power supply shortage today due to excessive electricity consumption. Citizens Electric and other utilities are asking the public and their large industrial customers to reduce their electric consumption as much as possible throughout today and this evening in a combined effort to reduce electric load.

 

MISO, which is a Regional Transmission System Operator (RTO), was created in recent years to improve the coordination and reliability of power across the nation’s electric grid.  Each RTO has its own Regional Security Coordinator, who oversees and manages events such as this one.

Along with limited power supply, market prices for electricity are climbing today. Any usage you can shed at this time will reduce the risk of possible rolling blackouts, reduce CEC’s power
